Pros and cons of Victorville after 14 years

Hey, We're a young couple and You can expect to pay around $1,568 for rent here. Poverty rate is 16.4%, which is higher than I expected. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Does this match your experience? Thanks for reading. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 47, moved here 14 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Old Town and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The safety situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for family and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The food scene is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.
