Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely challenging and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Sunset) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The cost of living is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 4 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely decent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Uptown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Pittsburgh it's excellent.
