Hey, Military spouse here. Average temperature is around 67--F, so the weather is moderate. You can expect to pay around $731 for rent here. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Should I be concerned? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Portland it's excellent.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from San Francisco about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The traffic is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in North area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Midtown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
