Life in Vinings as a young professional

I'm originally from Raleigh and Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Let me know your thoughts. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I've lived in Old Town for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- The pet-friendliness scene is average

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..

I work in manufacturing here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is tough. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Atlanta it's hit or miss.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Old Town for 4 years. Moved from Charlotte for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Summers can be brutally hot. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been in Old Town for 13 years. Moved from Dallas for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Dating scene is rough. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
