Freelancing from Visalia — experience?

Curious what people think. Rent is about $1,397/month for a decent place. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Thoughts? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The public transit is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Moved here from Minneapolis about 13 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to weather but Good luck with whatever you decide..

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

I work in engineering here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is challenging. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 12 years. Moved from Denver for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Dating scene is rough. Bugs and humidity in summer. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 15 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 7 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
