I work in construction and It's a a smaller city city with about 98,646 people. The median home value here is around $674,400, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -Vista sits at 346.3 per 100K. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Minneapolis about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in construction. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Korean.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Riverside for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
- The dating scene scene is improving
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 10 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
