Affordable areas near Wabash?

Military spouse here. Rent is about $677/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $115,000 on average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What would you do?

I work in legal here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is excellent. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 5 years. Moved from Phoenix for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is improving - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Limited entertainment options. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I work in consulting here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is better than expected. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.
