I'm a teacher who relocated here from Atlanta about 14 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Westside for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Diverse dining options
- The school system scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options
