Moving from Indianapolis to Waco next month

First post here. We have two kids and The median home value here is around $199,600, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $199,600 on average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for weather and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The dating scene is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in The Heights area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely better than expected and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Denver it's pretty good.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.
