Is Waggaman still affordable?
I've been here for 13 years and Poverty rate is 26.3%, which is higher than I expected. It's a a small town city with about 10,617 people. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.
Pros:
- Close to nature
- Lots of new development
- Plenty of shopping options
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit
- Cold winters
- Rising rent prices
- Not very walkable
Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services.
