Raising a family in Waggaman -thoughts?

I'm originally from Tampa and It's a a small town city with about 10,617 people. With a population of 10,617, Waggaman is a small town. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Anyone in a similar situation? I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- The traffic scene is tough

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.
