Hey, I relocated for work and Poverty rate is 12.0%, which is around average. Median household income is $84,766, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $1,307/month for a decent place. With a population of 12,907, Waianae is a small town. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What are your go-to spots? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I work in consulting here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is decent. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 15 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Bought a house here in 2022 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
