Homes are going for about $781,700 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Should I be concerned? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2022 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 6 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I'm a teacher and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely excellent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Chicago about 1 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is challenging.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
