What Wailuku does better than anywhere else

First post here. Just moved here 7 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Wailuku sits at 232.1 per 100K. Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. With a population of 15,754, Wailuku is a small town. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Close to nature
- Strong sense of community
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Chain restaurants dominate

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The safety is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Portland about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
