OK so I'm a college student here and It's a a small town city with about 1,031 people. With a population of 1,031, Wakefield is a small town. Rent is about $837/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 1.3%, which is pretty low. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What are your go-to spots? Thanks! It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Highland. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in government. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 12 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in legal. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is underrated in most areas.

I've been here 14 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Boston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth checking out..
