Raising a family in Wakefield-Peace Dale -thoughts?
Hey everyone, Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Thanks in advance! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in North area are excellent. Kids love it here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely improving and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (North) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.
