Military spouse here. The median home value here is around $383,600, which seems about average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Bought a house here in 2023 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 49, moved here 1 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Good healthcare facilities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for singles. average vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is decent in most areas.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Tampa it's solid.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The housing market is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 5 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..
