What surprised you most about Wallingford Center?

OK so Poverty rate is 4.9%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Am I wrong here? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much pricey but now it's average.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 31, moved here 6 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in South and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The walkability situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
