Is Wallington worth it salary-wise?

Curious what people think. I'm retired and You can expect to pay around $1,568 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Wallington sits at 77.8 per 100K. With a population of 11,825, Wallington is a small town. Household incomes average around $82,422 in Wallington. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What would you do? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 5 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 45, moved here 4 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Riverside and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Affordable housing options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The walkability situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $60K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 2 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've lived in South for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The community vibe scene is average

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..
