Is Walnut a good place to live?

Hey folks, I'm a 24-year-old data analyst and Poverty rate is 7.1%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Walnut sits at 126.2 per 100K. Household incomes average around $133,762 in Walnut. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 57, moved here 3 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Old Town and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The cost of living situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for families. average vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 12 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into running, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
