Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I've lived in Springfield for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- The housing market scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 10 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I work in retail here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is decent. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
