OK so With a population of 5,490, Walterboro is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Walterboro sits at 386.8 per 100K. Poverty rate is 30.6%, which is higher than I expected. You can expect to pay around $865 for rent here. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Let me know your thoughts. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Portland about 10 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Indian.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
