Rent vs buy in Waltham -what makes sense?

I'm a remote worker and Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Waltham sits at 162.6 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've lived in Midtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- The outdoor recreation scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
