Waltham job market vs Las Vegas

Hey folks, I've been here for 6 years and Crime rate is something to consider -Waltham sits at 162.6 per 100K. With a population of 64,723, Waltham is a smaller city. Median household income is $116,560, which feels pretty solid for the area. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much stable but now it's pretty good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Thai.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
