Random thought, My partner and I are Poverty rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 17,964 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Wantagh sits at 119.0 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Is this normal for Wantagh? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in tech. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like seafood.
No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Dallas about 3 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Bugs and humidity in summer.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
