Housing in Wapello compared to Memphis

First post here. I'm a remote worker and The median home value here is around $128,800, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Houston about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
