OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in education. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Midtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely underrated and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (East) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

I'm a chef and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Phoenix about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
