First post here. I'm a 47-year-old firefighter and Homes are going for about $181,900 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Thoughts? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Boston about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 52, moved here 13 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The school system situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Salt Lake City it's pretty good.
