Is Wasco walkable?

Born and raised here. Poverty rate is 19.4%, which is higher than I expected. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Thanks for reading. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Southern places. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 11 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 56, moved here 7 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Westside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Good schools in most areas
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The dating scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for young professionals. decent vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor recreation is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Raleigh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Houston about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in The Heights for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The housing market scene is tough

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
