Living in Wasco -the reality

Poverty rate is 19.4%, which is higher than I expected. With a population of 26,222, Wasco is a smaller city. Median household income is $55,521, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $991 for rent here. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- Far from major airports
- Chain restaurants dominate
What do you all think? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 3 years. Moved from Minneapolis for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is improving - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Far from beaches/mountains. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 7/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
