Best kept secrets of Washington, DC

Hey, We're a young couple and Homes are going for about $724,600 on average. Crime rate is something to consider — Washington sits at 977.1 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,900 for rent here. Household incomes average around $106,287 in Washington. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely better than expected and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Eastside. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Hope this helps!.
