Honest review of Washington after 13 years

Can we talk about

Transplant from Atlanta. Been here 5 months now. The parks system here is underrated.

A friend just bought in Logan Circle for K and I'm not sure if that was smart. A friend just bought in Logan Circle for K and I'm not sure if that was smart.

What I like:
- Affordable compared to coastal cities
- Friendly locals
- Nice downtown area
- Low commute times

What I don't:
- Chain restaurants everywhere
- Road conditions
- Wind never stops

I've never felt unsafe walking around Logan Circle at night. The suburbs vs city debate here is real.

What's your experience been?

OK let me break this down from someone who's been here a while.

Navy Yard vs Foggy Bottom: completely different vibes. Navy Yard is more solid with walkable streets and local shops. Foggy Bottom is growing and better for singles.

Cost-wise, expect /mo minimum for anything decent in Navy Yard. In Foggy Bottom you can find stuff for /mo.

The suburbs vs city debate here is real.. Traffic has gotten noticeably worse in the past year.

Renter's perspective: I think it's fair for the area. I'm in Adams Morgan and it's improving. Definitely shop around though.

I'd highly recommend checking out Woodley Park. The weather took some getting used to but I actually love it now.. Plus the food options around there are improving.

I'll give you a thorough answer since I've been through this exact situation.

I moved to Petworth from St. Louis about 6 years ago. Initially everything felt unfamiliar. But after settling in, The weather took some getting used to but I actually love it now..

A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out Petworth and Dupont Circle for housing
- Try the farmers market on Saturday mornings
- Talk to your neighbors - people are friendlier than you'd expect

The biggest adjustment was food scene. I've never felt unsafe walking around {hood} at night.. Overall I'd give Washington a 6/10 for remote workers.
