Job market in Washington for tech?

Alright, The median home value here is around $130,700, which is actually reasonable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I wrong here? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much wild but now it's surprisingly good.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (West) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2023 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from San Francisco about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 5 years. Moved from Portland for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is improving - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Bugs and humidity in summer. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 5/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Downtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..
