Alright, I grew up here but left for a while. Median household income is $78,510, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $217,500 on average. Household incomes average around $78,510 in Washington. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 14 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Tampa about 7 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to San Diego it's better than expected.
