Freelancing from Washington -experience?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I relocated for work and Household incomes average around $78,510 in Washington. The median home value here is around $217,500, which is actually reasonable. Crime rate is something to consider -Washington sits at 263.1 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Has anyone dealt with this? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 4 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Portland about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is tough.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
