First time home buyer in Washington

Hey everyone, Crime rate is something to consider -Washington sits at 124.0 per 100K. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Anyone in a similar situation? The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Old Town) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in retail here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in East area are excellent. Kids love it here.
