Washington job market vs New York

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a college student here and Crime rate is something to consider -Washington sits at 124.0 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Westside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is solid in most areas.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely better than expected and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
