Affordable areas near Washington?

Hey, Military spouse here. Median household income is $94,015, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $1,581/month for a decent place. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Any advice would be great.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- The cost of living scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.
