Should I move to Watauga or stay in Memphis?

I'm a remote worker and With a population of 23,336, Watauga is a small town. Poverty rate is 8.5%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Watauga sits at 158.0 per 100K. Rent is about $1,826/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Worth the trade-offs? Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 9 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 9 years. Moved from Minneapolis for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Dating scene is rough. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Minneapolis it's underrated.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 1 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The school system is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
