Housing market in Waterbury right now

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Poverty rate is 20.3%, which is higher than I expected. Household incomes average around $51,642 in Waterbury. It's a a mid-size city city with about 114K people. Crime rate is something to consider -Waterbury sits at 301.5 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely average and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community vibe is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
