Anyone else feel this way? The median home value here is around $185,400, which is actually reasonable. Household incomes average around $51,642 in Waterbury. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Riverside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 35, moved here 1 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Riverside and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The nightlife situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely decent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Downtown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Mexican places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 9 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Riverside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- The safety scene is average
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is underrated.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Uptown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
