Is Waterbury getting better or worse?

Hello, My partner and I are Crime rate is something to consider -Waterbury sits at 301.5 per 100K. Household incomes average around $51,642 in Waterbury. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The pet-friendliness is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Austin about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in marketing. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Southern.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 13 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
