Is Waterville worth it salary-wise?

My family moved here when I was a kid. Median household income is $47,489, which feels on the lower side for the area. Average temperature is around 45--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 17.0%, which is higher than I expected. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Is this normal for Waterville? TIA! There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Raleigh about 9 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Minneapolis it's excellent.
