Alright, It's a a small town city with about 14,010 people. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've lived in Uptown for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cultural scene scene is decent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The dating scene scene is improving
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 5 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Westside area are better than expected. Kids love it here.
