I'm a teacher here and With a population of 26,974, Waukee is a smaller city. Rent is about $1,290/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,290 for rent here. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.
