Best industries in Waukegan right now

Hey, Been living here since 2006. The median home value here is around $177,600, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $1,163 for rent here. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I wrong here? Thanks!

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Miami about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is average.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 15 years. Moved from Minneapolis for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is decent - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Homeless population growing downtown. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Westside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The food scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely challenging and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Eastside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 1 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Riverside for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The walkability scene is improving

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely tough and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (North) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is solid - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
