Housing market in Waukegan right now

Random thought, I'm originally from San Francisco and The median home value here is around $177,600, which is actually reasonable. What are your go-to spots?

Moved here from Nashville about 4 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to outdoor recreation but No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2023 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone about the same since then.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Old Town for 8 years. Moved from Miami for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is average - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Summers can be brutally hot. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Chicago about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is average.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.
