Job market in Waukegan — what industries are hiring?

I'm in retail and considering a move to Waukegan, IL. How's the job market there? The unemployment rate shows 3.6% which seems pretty good. But what does it actually look like on the ground?

Is it easy to network and find opportunities?

The food scene here is seriously underrated. So many great restaurants.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Midtown. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Rent tip: look for places in January-February. Prices drop and there's more availability.

Moved here last year. No regrets. Great value for the money.

Respectfully disagree about the cost of living assessment. In my experience, it's been pretty safe in my area.

I've lived in Eastside for 14 years and it's still one of the best decisions I made.

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 6/10.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Downtown and University District are perfectly safe.

Totally agree with this. I've been here 12 years and my experience is very similar.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is drive around neighborhoods at different times before committing. Makes a big difference.

Coming from Denver, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are slightly more expensive but housing makes up for it.

I work in education and finding a job wasn't hard. Took about 4 months.
