Been meaning to ask this. I'm a 28-year-old accountant and Poverty rate is 10.9%, which is around average. Rent is about $1,163/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 88,919 people. The median home value here is around $177,600, which is actually reasonable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Has anyone dealt with this? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely pretty good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Uptown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 7 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Sunset for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- The cost of living scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been here 8 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
