Moving to Waukegan for work -advice?

Curious what people think. You can expect to pay around $1,163 for rent here. With a population of 88,919, Waukegan is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $177,600 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Would love some local perspective. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Dallas about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is tough.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..
